Forty years ago, Fort Pitt's founder, Maury S. Sheer helped invent the modern Intermodal era. A member of the original class of Intermodal Founding Fathers, he had the insight to see an opportunity to market a product that even it's owners failed to appreciate the importance of. What is most significant is that this insight was from the point of view of not only a Railroader, but also a Trucker and Warehouseman. What was referred to at the time as a "Shipper's Agent", we now recognize as the very essence of what we today call Third Party Logistics.
